Gay marriage is the marriage of two people of the same sex or gender, who entered into in a civil or religious ceremony. Same-sex marriage has been in existence since the first century (You can imagine).
In the modern era, same-sex marriage started being legalized at the beginning of the 21st century.
A growing number of governments around the world are considering whether to grant legal recognition to same-sex marriages. But So far, 30 countries have enacted national laws allowing gays and lesbians to marry, mostly in Europe and the Americas. In Mexico, some jurisdictions allow same-sex couples to wed, while others do not.
Countries that allow same-sex marriage
1. Northern Ireland (2019)
2. Taiwan (2019)
3. United States (2015)
4. Brazil (2013)Etc.
Anglicans support same-sex marriage
The British Social Attitudes survey shows that a large majority of Anglicans support same-sex marriage. Many clergy would like to offer weddings to all, but their hands are tied by a legislation. In the Marriage Act 2013, culture secretary Maria Miller imposed a “quadruple lock” on the Church of England, banning it from offering same-sex marriage without fresh primary legislation.
Advantages of Gay Marriage
1.It gives couple protection when it comes to health care, finances and taxes. Before, two people who are cohabitating and in a homosexual relationship living as couples are not given the security of protecting what both have them earned and saved together.
2. Lessens Stigma
3. Gives Right to Start a Family.
4. Gives Equal Laws.
Disadvantages of Gay Marriage.
1. Affects Child Development.
2. Burdens the Divorce System.
3. Prone to Bullying.
4. Possibility of Tax Increase.
5. Affects Adoption Process.
By allowing married gay couples to legally adopt children and given that they might find it difficult and expensive to have children of their own, there will be an increase in the number of child adoption applications. This might lead to more straight couples who are also interested to adopt not being given priority since they have more chances to have their own children.
In summary: It is an eye sore for people to see gay couple especially in Nigeria. But there are others that appreciate it and even sees it as a beautiful thing.
As for me, I don't force people to go against their will. I'll rather advice them on the good and bad sad of what they're getting themselves involved in, so it's left for them to make a choice.
